Pro Wake Tour Announces Revised 2020 Schedule and New Digital Format
The Supra Boats Pro Wake Tour has announced that it will be happening this Summer under a revised schedule and exciting, new digital format. The 2020 Pro Wake Tour will feature a digital qualifier event, two online events and then two audience attended events later this Summer in Texas and Colorado.
Portland was scheduled to host a Pro Wake Tour stop for the first time since 2007 but due to COVID-19, the event has been moved to a digital format. During a recent news conference outlining steps the state should take to reopen, Governor Kate Brown said, “Large gatherings, including live sporting events with audiences, concerts, festivals and conventions, will not be able to return until we have a reliable treatment or prevention like a vaccine. The Oregon Health Authority is advising that any large gatherings at least through September should either be canceled or significantly modified.”
Following state health guidelines, the Pro Wake Tour made the tough decision to cancel this year’s Portland stop. Active Water Sports General Manager Dan Lay commented on the decision “We are bummed that the Pro Wake Tour won’t be coming to Portland this Summer but like everyone else, we are stoked that wakeboarding’s biggest contest is still happening. The new digital format will make this year’s contest very exciting and we hope to see several Active Water Sports customers try to qualify for the Pro Wake Tour. Active Water Sports promises to work very hard to bring the tour back to Portland in 2021.”

The new digital format brings a once in a lifetime opportunity for any wakeboarder or wakesurfer to qualify for the Pro Wake Tour. A digital qualifier event May 25-29 will allow riders all over the world to compete against the sport’s top athletes. The entry deadline for the video line submissions is Thursday, May 21st. Once submitted, the runs will be judged by Pro Wake Tour judges and also an online fan vote. Any rider, male or female, any age, is eligible to enter the PWT Qualifier in either the Pro Wakeboard or Pro Wakesurf divisions.

The Pro Wake Tour has partnered with Alliance Multimedia and Wakeboarding Magazine to produce the online events and distribute them to a worldwide audience. “We are excited to take a step in a new direction for the tour this year while adapting to the changing world around us.” Pro Wake Tour Manager, Devin Tatro said. Bill McCaffray of Alliance Multimedia added, “Despite the current conditions, Supra and the PWT were committed to delivering this series for both the athletes and the fans. This is going to be groundbreaking, I can’t wait to see how the digital qualifier and the fan vote element will help make it possible for women, men and unknown rippers to compete against the best riders in the world.”
