In 2019, the Oregon legislature passed House Bill 2352 that directed the Oregon State Marine Board to create a Towed Watersports Education Program for wakeboarders and wakesurfers riding on the section of the Willamette River considered the Newberg Pool (between river mile 30-50). This law went into effect on January 1, 2020.

All boat operators who are wakeboarding or wakesurfing on the Newberg Pool are now required to take the Towed Watersports Education Course. Active Water Sports has partnered with the Oregon State Marine Board to proctor equivalency exams. The first exam date will be Thursday, February 13th from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at the Oregon City location on 1224 McLoughlin Blvd.

There is a study guide available online that takes approximately 30-60 minutes to read.
